Dr Lim Mui Hong
Sports Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Lim Mui Hong is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who is accreditated by Singapore Medical Council in the dual specialties of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.
Dr Lim was awarded the Local Study Award (Medicine) from the Singapore Armed Forces in 1992 for his undergraduate studies and graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997. He received his Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2002 and completed his Advanced Specialist Training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore since 2007. He was awarded the International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Medicine in 2020.
He is registered in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Singapore Medical Council since 2007 and in the subspecialty of Sports Medicine since 2012.
Dr Lim underwent postgraduate fellowship training in Knee and Shoulder Surgeries at Warringal Hospital and The Park Clinic in Melbourne, Australia. During the one-year overseas clinical fellowship programme, he was trained in both arthroscopic and open surgeries of the knee and shoulder such as ligament reconstruction, shoulder stabilisation and joint replacements.
His clinical interests include the management of sports injuries, arthroscopic and open treatment of knee and shoulder conditions. Examples of knee conditions include injuries of the cruciate ligaments, cartilage and meniscus; multi-ligament knee injuries, patellar instability and osteoarthritis. Examples of shoulder conditions include shoulder instability, rotator cuff conditions and osteoarthritis.
Dr Lim had served in the public sector in various appointments. He was Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was also the Head of Sports Medicine and Surgery Service.
He had held various staff appointments in the Singapore Armed Forces including Head, Soldier Performance Centre; Deputy Commander Military Medicine Institute. He had participated in various peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. He continues to contribute as an active NSman and a visiting consultant.
Dr Lim is a Level 2 medical classifier for para athletes in Track and Field. He conducts sessions to classify para athletes to enable them to compete in track and field events. Dr Lim was shortlisted for the Community Impact (Volunteering) Award at the Singapore Disability Sports Awards 2020.
He is active in clinical research and has published several scientific papers and a textbook chapter. He is a reviewer for various peer reviewed journals. He has trained doctors in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme and overseas fellows. He presents regularly at scientific conferences and contributes as faculty for courses.
He is also involved in post graduate training and education for orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists. He is a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Exit Examination Committee and the Sports Medicine Specialty Training Committee.
Dr Lim is passionate about golf and distance running. He participates regularly in both local and overseas half and full marathon events such as the Sundown Marathon, Army Half Marathon, Northface 100 and Standard Chartered Marathon. He had completed several overseas full marathons including Tokyo, Berlin, Honolulu, Gold Coast, Osaka and Kobe. He had also completed ultramarathons in Australia and New Zealand. During the global pandemic, he continued with regular training and completed several virtual marathons.
